It's Been Forever...

It seems like it has been forever since we posted last on here. We started this blog, with the intention of highlighting My photography and +Nevin Culley's writings. We just weren't sure where to go with it...

With new inspiration, and a fresh year ahead of us, we have chosen a theme for the blog: Adventures in Photography, Writing, Creativity, Life, and Parenting. Here, we hope to inspire, delight, and keep you laughing with us as we explore this venue!

The Joy of Friends....

My daughter asked me to meet with her choir group to take pictures. There was another photographer there to do it, she was new and asked for my advice. She was new to photography and trying to work things out...and I love giving advice. So we took some pictures. 

I look at these pictures and I see the joy in not just a choir, but a group of friends. The silliness, the craziness, and the love they share. I look at these pictures now, and my daughter has a new group of friends...she is at a new school. This reminds me of the impermanence of life...

It is joy

And laughter

And silliness

A comfort from the darkness

That tries to take over

A shoulder to cry on when

The world shatters

Giggles when it is the least appropriate

A leap

A hug

Running through sprinklers

In the park at night

It is the group of people

Who you meet for lunch everyday

Or the one person who will

Never abandon you

It is Hope

Love

A cup of hot chocolate in the cold

Sprinkled with marshmallows

It is Friendship

It’s about beginnings.

Maybe this is your first step out on your own, or you may be well traveled and looking for the next new adventure; taking that first step is always the hardest.

There may be fear. What if you don’t succeed? What if you try your best and you fail? What if you set out to follow your dream and find it is a nightmare?

There may be roadblocks. How do you fund the trip? What do you do if there is trouble? What if you walk down the mountain path and find that it is impassable?

There will definitely be the unknown. Situations you could never have foreseen until you are in the middle of your journey.

But that is the point; it is your journey. You have the idea, the inspiration that takes you to that first step and, though there are many reasons not to leave, you place your feet on the road and you go.

Beginning is the most difficult part, but once you set your feet on the path and you begin to gain momentum, you know that this is what you want to do…what you have to do. No matter what comes up or what may happen, you are invigorated and inspired by the thought that you have made a plan and you want to see it through. You have come to the realization that life does not just happen; it is your creation, your footsteps.

This is your life and these are your Essential Journeys
